We have seen how advertising can be a powerful tool to bring about messages to their desired target audience through this video

In groups of 4-5, discuss using 1 advertisement, about the messages of advertising. You should use 2R1 Advertisement Discussion (this form) to answer some key questions. You should pick an advertisement with pictures and words for discussion.

Have fun dissecting the advertisements! You will learn so much from 1 “simple” advertisement.

1) Do you feel that the dispute between the Chinese and Indian family require the intervention of Mr Mohammed Farhan? Could it be resolved without Mr Mohammed Farhan?

2) Some people would feel that what Mr Mohammed Farhan did was none of his business and that he could be labeled a “busybody”. Do you feel this way? Why?

3) Mr Farhan said “Neighbours can be closer than relatives”. In Chinese, a saying of similar saying dictates that “Relatives who stay far away are not as precious as neighbours who stay close to you.” Do you agree with this point of view and why?

Video Comments – Filial Piety

In class we watched a video by the Petronas Group (Malaysia) about filial piety and we discussed how we can be filial to our parents.

I would now like to show you another video, this time from the Ministry of Community, Youth and Sports (MCYS) on filial piety.

Task: After viewing this video, comment on this post answering the following questions:

1) The Petronas and MCYS videos, despite being of the same theme of filial piety, are very different. State 2 differences you can observe from this video.

2) Which video do you think is a better way to promote filial piety and why do you say so?
